Meeting the Kids of Carver Middle School

Last week was our first encounter with the students who attend Carver Middle School. Throughout the semester we will be working with them to ensure that their FAST assessments are getting done and doing extra projects with them that will help us get to know the students on a more personal level. Just from the first meeting, I can tell that it may be difficult to break through to my students. They seem pretty reluctant to talk to me and share information about themselves. One of my students is extremely shy and will only shrug his shoulders when I ask him questions. I am also having a hard time explaining the I Am From project to my selected student because she hasn't quite envisioned what the end product should look like for her. In the future, I am hoping to share more about myself with my students so that they may be able to relate to some things I am interested and that will hopefully get them talking.
