Second Week In Carver
We had our second opportunity to interact with the students of Carver Middle School last week. Two out of my three students were not in class this week. It made me think a lot about the difficulties teachers face. A lot of issues are out of their control. If there are students who are habitually not attending, there is little that educators can do. They can obviously contact parents, but if that is not an option or if the parent is uninterested what is the next step? How can educators be there for their students outside of the classroom without crossing a thin line? This week also made me think about how educators have to adapt their plans quickly when things don't go smoothly. My student who I am working with for the I Am project was gone. Now I need to think of ways that we can make up for the progress we lost next week. It is hard to imagine having to juggle this kind of manipulation for twenty different students. What is the best way to ensure every student is getting the same education even if they are absent?
